Car is running great. Seams alot more refined then the first version. The drive by wire set up just feels nicer and power delivery is much more controllable. Absolute blast to drive.

Managed to get the fuel carrier changed out so I now have a working fuel gauge. It is a big relief not driving around with an oragne light on all the time.

I am getting much more confidence in the build and everything is still in one piece.

Had a recent issue that stumped me for awhile. I fitted a used drive by wire throttle pedal from a newer BMW. They are common as dirt and used in everything from E46s to current 1 series. It has two pedal position sensors and one of them was starting to give up. When the ECU would see a 15 % deviation between the readings it put it into a sort of limp mode.
Set the ECU to read off of one sensor while I wait for a new pedal to arrive and everything is good again.

Need to do some on road data logging now and send that to the tuners to review. The tune seams to be a bit rich at the top end but its running really well. During the dyno sesion they starting to see the top end go lean at the end of the day. We both feel it was a combination of low fuel and the tank getting warm since the exhaust runs underneath it. Its amazing how much fuel you go through and how hot things get doing back to back full throttle power runs.

Realized I have not made any updates.

Running great and is a handful to drive. Had a small issue with the dbw throttle pedal. One of the feedbacks wasn't working correctly and when it went beyond 15 percent the ECU through it in limp mode. I have a little over 2000 miles on the new engine so getting more and more confident with it.

Down at Goodwood circuit with the Zed Owners group and get to play on the track tomorrow. Super excited even if it's just a drive around.

You'll need to get someone to get a bit of video shot of it be great to see it pressing on if its anything like the 2.8 variant it will go like the wind and sound great.

Was down at Goodwood Circuit this weekend with the Zed Owners group for the German Carfest on Saturday. Had a blast and managed to get my car on the track in the morning until I ran low on fuel. Its amazing how fast it will burn fuel at full chat for extended periods.

This was the first time I have really been able to try out the new engine. The car itself ran without fault. It is extremely fast and could easily keep up with the nicer newer cars.

There is no shortage of power and the starts involved a lot of wheel spin. I am not sure if the front straight isn’t a little loose since every time I came out of the chicane and got along side the pits it would spin the rear in third. Every where else on the track you could just ease into the throttle and it would go.

Handling and cornered extremely well. It only stepped the back out once when I messed up a hard left into a downhill section. I am running 245 fronts and 295 rears with BC coilovers. Only change I made was stiffening up the rear dampers 5 clicks. Its noticeably stiffer and a bit more then I want on the road but was an improvement on the track. The fronts showed the wear from the high speed corners and I may look at adding a few degrees of additional camber into the front.

Absolutely no complaints about the engine or turbo set up. Its spot on and power delivery was really controllable compared to the last engine. Temperture and oil pressure never fluctuated.

Only thing I would like to improve is the brakes. They worked but I started getting some disc vibration in the front when they were really hot. There was no brake fade or issues just not as crisp as I wanted when pushed really hard. Coming down the back of Goodwood the car was doing between 130 and 140 and it’s a bit unnerving looking at a right hand corner. I have 330i fronts with Brembo slotted discs 328i vented discs and callipers on the rear with EBC yellow stuff pads all around. Cant fault the set up but they can be better. Looking at some Porche 996 callipers with M3 front discs and 330i rear discs. Only thing is the handbrake on the E46 is larger then the Z3 so have to figure that out. May end up welding some custom shoes since they are 30mm larger in diameter. That’s for the future and requires more thinking.

This winters project will start shortly. Rebuilding the rear diff and stiffening the boot floor. I have additional clutch packs for the LSD and a twin ear diff cover to install. I have limped the diff floor along for far to long as there were more fun things to do.

Not much for making the bottom side that nobody sees shinny but did clean the the diff. Looks nice and fancy.

It's just an empty case for now while I use it to strengthen the boot floor.

Managed to get the rear brakes fitted.
Custom adaptor brackets and hand brake shoes. I already had adaptors to fit the 328i vented discs so modified these to suit the new calipers. The hand brake is 20mm larger diameter so I made up some shoes with thicker friction material.

New propshaft on the cards.

A noise under load was getting progressively worse. Found two of the U joints with quite a bit of play. One really bad. All the joints were new when the shaft was shortened for the six speed swap.

Driveshaft shop is fabricating a new shaft for me. 1310 joints and a stiffer carrier bearing. Torque figures are much higher so it should last a lot longer and I can change joints at home in the future.
